Replacing an existing railing on the same steps often does not need a permit, but new decks, balconies, raised porches and below-grade entrances usually require a building permit from the Town of Ajax. Fences are governed by Ajax's fence by-law, which limits heights (typically lower in front yards than back yards), and pool enclosures must meet the pool by-law, including self-closing, self-latching gates. We check the rules for your address during the consultation and design to them.

Older homes in Pickering Village suit traditional ironwork: vertical pickets with modest finials, simple top rails and, if you want ornament, a few scroll accents near the posts. Black is the classic finish. These designs keep the historic character while giving you a stronger, safer railing.
