Replacing an existing railing on the same steps often does not need a permit, but new decks, balconies, raised porches and below-grade entrances usually require a building permit from the Town of Whitby. Fences are governed by Whitby's fence by-law, which limits heights (typically lower in front yards than back yards), and pool enclosures must meet the pool by-law, including self-closing, self-latching gates. We check the rules for your address during the consultation and design to them.

We replace them with custom wrought iron in a style that suits the house, keeping the required heights and spacing. If your home is still under a builder warranty, check the terms before changing exterior components.
